The Indiana University School of Medicine cordially invites you to participate in “Health Care Reform:  A National Discussion,” on September 11, 2009 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis’ University Library.  This program is designed for students in the IU School of Medicine.

Our aim is to raise awareness of the state of health in America and to reflect on how the pending health care reform initiatives in Congress may address deficiencies in our health care system.  To accomplish this, our national experts and panelists will engage students in a dialogue regarding proposed health reform options, from incremental changes to our existing employer –based, health insurance model to reforms involving the “public option” as well as the “single payer” or “Medicare for All” reforms.    At the end of this two hour program, attendees will be able to:

1.       Summarize the similarities and differences between the current private health insurance models and reforms that include either the “Public Option” or the Single Payer system

2.       Outline the major proposed benefits and risks (for patients; the public; economy; etc) of these and other proposed policy options.

3.       Review the general process by which health and health care reform policy will be informed and shaped in the coming months.

Space is limited to 100 guests.  Because of the content, these seats are reserved for students in the IU School of Medicine.  This includes the Department of Public Health.  ID will be required at registration.  In addition, students attending in person will receive a free box lunch.  Lunch service and registration will begin at 11:00 am.

A live webstream of this event will open for the general public.  You will need to register in this system in order to get the link.
