September Topic: Hoarding
While television shows related to hoarding become more and more popular, little information has been made available to public health professionals on how to assist those who hoard beyond environmental clean up. The speaker will offer suggestions on how to connect individuals with appropriate services, how hoarding and environmental clean up may work, and other key issues.
The IU School of Medicine Ruth Lilly Library offers a signficant collection of research and materials related to clinical and public health professionals. The library now allows public health professionals to create a free library account. This is a fantastic way to get the information you need to make evidence based decisions.
This meet up will feature a tour of the library and it's resources led by Beth Whipple, one of the librarians assigned to public health.
This meet up begins at 3:30 pm. We'll finish by 4:30 pm to allow participants time to exit downtown before rush hour begins!
October Topic: Health Literacy
Kathryn Lauten, Associate Director, Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication, will discuss statewide health communication and health literacy initiatives and how to find the resources you need to make health communication accessible to all.
Stay tuned for more information!
Join us for a networking lunch at a downtown establishment! Meet new people, catch up with those you know. Please bring materials on your program/organization to show off your work!
November Topic: Social Determinents of Health
Join the IU School of Medicine Department of Public Health's Social and Behavioral Sciences faculty for a discussion on how one's environment shapes health status. Time will be spent looking at disparities and ideas on overcoming barriers.
December Topic: GIS for Public Health Professionals
This Cafe will offer an overview of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and how they can be helpful to public health work. GIS is especially useful in urban planning, natural resource planning, emergency management, navigation, and surveying.
